Shannon Campbell, A.T.C., L.A.T., E.M.T.-A., of Lewiston High School has been named the Regional Nominee for The 2019 – 2020 Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award. As the Regional Nominee, Campbell will advance on to join other Regional Nominees from across the nation to be considered for the title of The Newell Award National Athletic Trainer of the Year, which will be announced in May 2020.
In partnership with local leading orthopedic practices, such as Lewiston Orthopedics in Lewiston, The 2019 – 2020 Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award recognizes athletic trainers for the service and leadership they provide to local athletic communities. Based on examples of service, leadership and shared experiences from community members, nominees for The Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award are determined regionally.
“The support from community members on Mr. Campbell's behalf showed us the positive impact he's made on our community,” says Dr. Adam Jelinek, fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon at Lewiston Orthopedics. “We feel honored to acknowledge his efforts by partnering with The Newell Award to recognize the region's top athletic trainers for the service and leadership they display while treating our local athletes.”
As the head athletic trainer for Lewiston High School, Campbell works full time to keep athletes in the game, and as a health and physical education instructor, he helps students stay healthy, active and educated in basic health care. He received his Bachelor of Science in education for physical education with an athletic training option from the University of Idaho in Moscow. Campbell has served Lewiston High School and the local community as an athletic trainer and teacher for nearly 30 years, caring for injured athletes and educating athletes and future athletic trainers through his work.
In addition to Campbell, there were other exceptional candidates considered for regional nomination for The 2019 – 2020 Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award, including Adam Cadez-Schmidt of Lewiston High School and Dalton Greer of Clarkston High School.
